Professional Background

An acknowledged expert in transnational arbitration and litigation, Dr. De Jesús O., regularly appears as counsel before international arbitral tribunals at the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA), the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) and the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), among other international fora, as well as before national commercial and criminal courts in arbitration-related or international cases. He also sits as an arbitrator in selected cases and advises clients on general international contract law and international law matters.

Dr. De Jesús O., is a Court Member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration at The Hague and a Member of the Panel of Arbitrators and Chairmen of Arbitral Tribunals of the MERCOSUR (Arts. 11.1 and 11.2 of the Olivos Protocol). He also participates in the sessions of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law Working Group II (Arbitration and Conciliation / Dispute Settlement) and Working Group III (Investor-State Dispute Settlement Reform). Dr. De Jesús O., is a Member of the ICC Latin American Arbitration Group, the ICC Institute of World Business Law and is a former Representative for Latin America of the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA) young practitioners group.

Academic Background

Dr. De Jesús O. is an academic focusing his work on the New World Order of Economic Relations, Transnational Arbitration and Transational Petroleum Law. He is an Associate Member of the CREDIMI-CNRS, Centre de recherche sur le droit des marchés et des investissements internationaux, the mixed research unit of the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) and the University of Burgundy, an Honorary Associate of the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy - CEPMLP - of the University of Dundee and an Associate Researcher of the DANTE - Laboratoire de droit des affaires et nouvelles technologies of the University of Versailles - Paris Saclay.

Dr. De Jesús O., is currently a Member of the Steering Committee of the LLM in International Business Law at the University of Paris XI Paris-Saclay, where he teaches Transnational Petroleum Law and Arbitration. He also taugh for ten years a course on Transnational Law and Arbitration in the LLM in Arbitration and International Business Law at the University of Versailles - Paris Saclay.

He has also been invited as a Visiting Lecturer on Transnational Law and Arbitration at the University of Paris II Panthéon-Assas and the University of Paris III Sorbonne Nouvelle (France), the Complutense University of Madrid (Spain), the Pontifical Catholic University of Chili (Chili), the University of the Pacific (Peru), the University of Rosario (Colombia) and the University of Monterrey (Mexico), among others. He has also taught Transnational Petroleum Law and Arbitration as a Guest Lecturer at the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy (CEPMLP) of the University of Dundee, the Environment, Energy & Natural Resources Center (EENR) of the University of Houston, the Paris Institute of Political Sciences (Sciences Po Paris), the Queen Mary University of London, the University of Paris I - Panthéon-Sorbonne, the Private University of Bolivia and the University of Sherbrooke.
